BBMA Hornsby Open Day: Free Local Martial Arts Classes

Discover the benefits of Shotokan Karate for the whole family at the BBMA Hornsby Open Day.

For 13 years, Black Belt Martial Arts Hornsby (BBMA) has been a staple of our local community, helping children, teenagers, and adults build confidence, discipline, and resilience through Shotokan Karate.

What began as a local martial arts school, has grown into a community focused on helping people of all ages develop skills that extend far beyond the dojo.

In Short

  • Celebrating 13 years in the community, BBMA Hornsby teaches resilience and discipline through Shotokan Karate.
  • Locals are invited to a free Open Day on Saturday, 10 October, featuring taster classes and board breaking demonstrations.
  • Visitors can test their skills in the popular "Beat the Black Belt" challenge against experienced local instructors.
  • Programs cater to all ages, integrating self-defence, fitness, and practical life skills into family-friendly training sessions.

Speaking to The Post, BBMA Hornsby’s Sensei Josh shared: “Our goal has always been about more than teaching karate. We want to give people the confidence, skills and resilience they can take into everyday life.”

Now, BBMA Hornsby is inviting our readers to step onto the mat and experience what martial arts is all about at their Open Day on Saturday, 10 October.

The Open Day will give local families the opportunity to try free taster classes, meet the instructors, and discover how martial arts can provide confidence, key self defence skills, focus, and personal development.

Visitors can also experience some of the excitement of karate firsthand, with board breaking demonstrations, kids’ activities, and the popular “Beat the Black Belt” challenge, giving participants the chance to test their skills against a Black Belt Karateka.

While karate is often associated with children, BBMA Hornsby’s programs cater to the whole family, with opportunities for young children, school-aged kids, teenagers and adults. Self-defence, fitness, discipline, and practical life skills are all incorporated into training, creating an environment where families can learn and grow together.
