As a major employment, retail, and transport hub, Chatswood is uniquely positioned to help deliver new housing.
Council maintains that density in Willoughby is best directed toward Chatswood and St Leonards to leverage their world-class active transport links.

Mayor Tanya Taylor emphasised that the project aims to establish Chatswood as a premier example of Transport Oriented Development, delivering liveable density with abundant sunlight, green space, and strong community infrastructure.
“The question is not whether Chatswood will change over the next 35 years, but how we plan for that change today,” Mayor Taylor said, calling on state and federal governments to ensure vital infrastructure keeps pace with growth.
Beyond housing, the vision reinforces Chatswood as the cultural heart of the North Shore – a thriving, inclusive home for businesses, families, and future generations.
Council will host a launch event shortly to gather initial input from residents, workers, and local businesses, ahead of releasing a draft master plan for public consultation in early 2027.
