EACH new year, we have the best intentions to make things better, to improve our lives and our loved ones’ lives.
A few areas of you and your aged loved one’s lives might require reviewing or updating, to help you take the stress out of caring for your aged loved ones.
We often set and forget! But things change, needs change!
Here are a few things to consider:
- Is the will, power of attorney and enduring guardianship up to date – is the executor still available?
- Care plan review – do they need more care? Is there an advanced care directive?
- Medications review
- Digital Safety – is your aged loved one online? Have you had the chat about scammers?
- Hazards – is your aged loved one safe at home? Are there trip hazards? Can they manage to live safely in the home? This is possibly the most important area to review
- These are just a few areas to look at for your aged loved ones and for you to review.
It can seem overwhelming – well, it is! Let’s not kid ourselves; having these conversations is really tough. But it has to be done, and it is less stressful doing it now before an emergency happens.
Get help – ask professionals to help you out. It will be easier for them to handle the tough conversations. (Don’t forget the White Coat Syndrome – your aged loved ones are more likely to listen to “professionals”.)
We often look at issues with rose-coloured glasses, especially towards our family home and the capabilities of our aged loved ones.
