SUMMARY:Sydney Bastille Festival 2026: A French Winter Escape
DESCRIPTION:Grab your beret and take a quick ferry from the North Shore to enjoy Sydney’s biggest French celebration. \n\nA slice of France in Sydney\, the  Bastille Festival Expands for 2026. \nSydney is set to embrace the spirit of France this winter as the iconic Bastille Festival returns from July 16 to 19\, 2026. Taking place in Circular Quay and The Rocks\, the four-day celebration of food\, wine\, and art remains completely free to attend. \nFestival Director Vincent Hernandez describes the 2026 edition as the most ambitious and immersive one yet. This year\, the event offers a true culinary journey with over 130 exhibitors and more than 80 dishes. Visitors can indulge in French staples like raclette\, escargots\, crêpes\, and macarons. To complement the food\, the festival features over 18 bars serving mulled wine\, spiced cider\, and cocktails\, alongside the “Taste France x Vin de France” activation for wine discovery and masterclasses. \nBeyond the cuisine\, the festival is expanding its traditional footprint. Key cultural highlights for 2026 include: \nLive Entertainment: Over 110 free performances\, including cabaret and roaming mimes\, will transform the city into a wider stage. \nExpanded Music: A collaboration with the city’s busking program will link precincts through a connected musical journey beyond Circular Quay. \nNew Flea Market: Gateway Plaza will host a French-inspired flea market featuring vintage finds\, artisanal goods\, and a meaningful focus on charity involvement. \nBringing unmistakable Parisian energy to the harbor\, the festival invites locals to grab a beret and celebrate winter the French way. \n

SUMMARY:Rally in Red to Save Ku-ring-gai's Marian St Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Have you seen the banners flying and posters popping up across local coffee shops and train stations from Warrawee to Roseville? Our dedicated volunteers have been braving Sydney’s cold\, wet winter mornings to bring you an important message: It’s time to speak up for the arts! \nKu-ring-gai severely lacks performance spaces\, yet Council is now putting the decade-long\, millions-in-the-making approved DA for the beloved Marian Street Theatre at risk. \nWe are gathering to make some noise\, celebrate local culture\, and demand action. Part protest\, part community celebration\, the Rally in Red for the Arts will feature live music\, loudspeakers\, and fun for arts lovers of all ages and backgrounds. \nWear a splash of red\, bring your voice\, and join hundreds of your neighbours! \nFor over a century\, the historic Marian Street Theatre has stood as a cornerstone of Ku-ring-gai’s cultural identity. However\, after lying derelict for 13 years\, its future faces an immediate crisis. Ku-ring-gai Council’s sudden decision to abandon the approved redevelopment plans puts $1.7 million of invested public planning and architecture at risk of expiring forever on August 19. While local sports infrastructure receives millions in funding\, the region is left completely devoid of a dedicated\, publicly accessible performing arts venue. \nTo combat this loss\, residents\, artists\, and community members are taking a stand. The “Rally in Red” community protest will mobilize outside Gordon Library on Sunday\, August 2\, from 12 pm to 2 pm. Backed by local leaders\, community advocates\, and prominent figures like playwright David Williamson\, the rally demands that Council reverse its decision and preserve the approved contemporary Arts Centre plans before the looming deadline. Attendees are encouraged to wear red and show up to help protect the future of the North Shore’s cultural infrastructure. \nWe Need Your Help!\nWe are still looking for passionate volunteers to help make this rally a success. Sign up for a volunteer shift or to learn more about how you can support the campaign.
