The safety of our youngest road users is a top priority for the Northern Sydney community. To address this, the Northern Sydney Sector Highway Patrol, in partnership with HART St Ives, launched “Lights On” – a vital community engagement event designed to prevent road trauma before it starts.
Held on Saturday 29 March 2026, at the HART facility on Mona Vale Road, this free event offered Learner Drivers under 25 and their supervisors a rare opportunity to practice night driving. By using the controlled HART Road Circuit, learners can gain essential confidence after dark without the stress of regular traffic – all while logging official hours.
The initiative goes far beyond simple driving practice. Local Police from the Highway Patrol were on-site to provide crucial education on:
- Common mistakes and offences made by novice drivers.
- Specific conditions attached to Learner and Provisional licences.
- A simulated roadside testing site to experience police interactions in a relaxed, non-confrontational setting.
With additional presentations from Fire Rescue NSW and HART staff covering crash statistics and vehicle technology, the event aims to empower our local youth with the knowledge to stay safe.
