Human Rights Day, 10th December 2024

Human Rights Day falls annually on the 10th of December.

This date commemorates the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a landmark document that identifies and distinguishes the inalienable rights of every human being, regardless of race, religion, sex, language, political affiliation, national origin, birth, and other social status.

On the 10th of December 1948, the United Nations General Assembly in Paris proclaimed that fundamental human rights were to be universally protected. The UDHR has been translated into 577 languages, making it the most translated document in the world.

For 2024, the Human Rights Day theme is “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now”. It is an acknowledgment of the importance of human rights as we move through our daily lives. The day serves as a call to remember that by speaking up against disinformation, challenging misinformation, and mobilising against hateful speech, we can ensure that human rights are protected globally, for all people.
