Welcome to October! As the spring warmth finally settles across the North Shore, our community calendar is bursting into life.
This month, you are spoiled for choice with local celebrations – don’t miss the iconic Wahroonga Food and Wine Festival or the vibrant Crows Nest Festival, both featured in our community pages this edition. There is truly nothing quite like gathering outdoors with friends, family, and neighbours to celebrate the unique culture and vibrant spirit of our local area.
In Short
- Spring festivals return: The local calendar is bursting into life with outdoor celebrations, including the iconic Wahroonga Food and Wine Festival and the vibrant Crows Nest Festival.
- Civic and environmental updates: Ku-ring-gai welcomes new Mayor Kim Wheatley and Deputy Mayor Matt Devlin, while a new rooftop installation brings 120,000 bees to Chatswood to support local biodiversity.
- Vital community support: Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury Sydney has launched the 'Mates in Mind' initiative for local sport, and Studio ARTES has unveiled a new community-funded kitchen.
It was an absolute pleasure recently to attend Nick Bendel’s book launch for The 500 Lunches Effect. I am delighted to share that I was lunch #190 in his incredible journey, and it was a wonderful reminder of the deep power of face-to-face conversation and local connection. Speaking of vibrant local life, Chatswood has just welcomed 120,000 tiny new tenants thanks to a fascinating new rooftop bee installation – be sure to read all about our new buzzing neighbours inside and learn how they are supporting our local biodiversity.
Community spirit continues to shine brightly across our suburbs. Studio ARTES has unveiled a fantastic new kitchen, made possible thanks to the generous, continued support of Community Bank Lindfield, providing a wonderful new space for their inspiring program participants. We also extend our warmest congratulations to Ku-ring-gai’s newly elected leadership: Mayor Kim Wheatley and Deputy Mayor Matt Devlin. We wish them both every success as they take on these pivotal roles in serving our region.
A very warm welcome to our newest columnist joining The Post team: Cruiseabout, conveniently located right in St Ives, who will be sharing expert travel advice and cruise inspiration for your next getaway. For families exploring quality education options, Reddam House North Shore is holding an Open Day on October 25th – do pass the word along to any friends or neighbours who might be interested in touring their impressive new facilities.
Finally, I am particularly proud to profile a vital new mental health initiative by Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury Sydney. ‘Mates in Mind’ is fostering crucial, lifesaving conversations directly through community sport, reminding us all of the strength found in looking out for one another on and off the field.
Enjoy the sunshine, explore the festivals, and happy reading!
Tina
