Cruiseabout St Ives Reviews the Royal Clipper Experience

Nada from Cruiseabout St Ives shares her magical experience sailing the Croatian coast aboard the record-breaking sailing ship.

Sailing on the Royal Clipper down the Croatian coast was a fantastic experience and I feel so privileged to have sailed on the largest square-rigged sailing ship in the world as she’s been crowned by Guiness World Records.

My name is Nada and I work at our Cruiseabout St Ives store – travel is my passion but I love cruising as its such an easy and fabulous way to see the world, only unpack once and wake up in a new place almost daily.

In Short

  • Record-breaking vessel: The Royal Clipper holds the Guinness World Record as the largest square-rigged sailing ship in the world.
  • Intimate atmosphere: Operating with fewer than 230 guests, the Star Clippers line offers a highly personalised, family-like environment away from the crowds of mega-ships.
  • Bucket-list adventures: Beyond the old-world colonial charm and diverse global dining, adventurous guests can even strap in and climb the ship's mast for panoramic ocean views.

The Star Clippers line is an understated fleet of three sailing ships with under 230 guests taking in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Once you are on board you become a part of the family and making friends is so easy.

The Royal Clipper which was my home for seven nights had an old worldly colonial feel – good sized cabins, plenty of pool and deck space and what it lacked in daily hour by hour entertainment it more than made up in the atmosphere and the nightly events they had on.

If being a pirate was ever on your bucket list and you aren’t afraid of heights then climbing the mast is an amazing experience and a great way to see the ship from the top. When she is all lit up at night or when they do the music and light show she becomes absolutely magical.

The staff and crew are so amazing and nothing is ever too much trouble – you get to know them and become intertwined in their lives so it’s definitely a family feel on board.

The food is fabulous and there is so much variety from Asian fusion to Middle Eastern, Italian to Greek and everything in between you will never go hungry although your eyes may be bigger than your stomach as was the case with me.

Star Clippers is such an amazing cruise option and so very different to what else is out there, I guess you can say they’re niche so you  don’t want to miss out on sailing with them – really what do you have to lose?

Ready to plan your next bucket-list adventure? Contact Nada and the team at Cruiseabout St Ives to book your Star Clippers experience.
