Tune into ‘the Bench’ for the latest on Sports

With the Christmas break done and dusted in the Men’s and Women’s Premier Cricket competitions, and with finals around the corner, we are getting closer to knowing who out of both the Northern Districts Cricket Club and the Gordon District Cricket Clubs Men’s and Women’s sides will be participating in those finals come March.

On the Men’s side Northern Districts are still leading the Belvidere Cup, with now 10 wins from 10 matches, while Gordon sit 12th with only 4 wins, now 11 points outside the top 6. Northern Districts’ Scott Rodgie is the highest on the top run scorers list in 2nd with 457 runs in 10 innings. Gordon’s Taj Brar is their top run scorer, 7th on the list with 401 runs in 8 innings. Scott is also still the leading wicket taker in the Belvidere Cup with 21 wickets, with teammate Ross Pawson now up to 3rd with 19 wickets. 

The Northern Districts Women’s side have slipped outside the top 4, currently 6th, 5 points outside the top 4, while the Gordon Women’s side is 10th, still without a win so far this season. Gordon’s captain Heidi Cheadle is the best of the batters from both sides, with 166 runs in 7 innings, and leading wicket taker from both sides is Northern Districts’ Abbey Taylor with 10, currently equal 2nd on the top wicket takers list for the competition.
