Strengthening Telecommunications Against Natural Disasters

I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year celebration after the challenges of last year.

I was pleased to be able to join so many of you for end of year community events including the famous Glenhaven Carols which celebrated its 21st year!

At the end of last year, I hosted Bridget McKenzie, Minister for Emergency Management and National Recovery and Resilience and Minister for Regionalisation, Regional Communications and Regional Education.

Minister McKenzie announced phase 2 of the Strengthening Telecommunications Against Natural Disasters program at the Hornsby RFS.

The object of this program is to improve telecommunications resilience in communities at risk of natural disasters and to enhance the capability to restore services to areas affected by bushfires or natural disasters.

This is so important in communities like ours which face natural disasters and bad telco on a regular basis.

Andrew Gee, Minister for Defence Personnel and Veterans’ Affairs also visited the electorate.

Minister Gee laid a wreath in memory of General Rawat, India’s Chief of Defence Staff who died in a helicopter crash, at the Anzac Jawan Cenotaph in Cherrybrook, before meeting with veterans at the Hornsby RSL.

In another important announcement, the Government will assist more than 4600 Australians to buy their first home under its home guarantee scheme.

The scheme helps first home buyers and single-parent families get into their own home sooner with a deposit of as little as five per cent or two per cent respectively. Go to www.nhfic.gov.au for more info.

Make sure you are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations so we can continue to be one of the most highly vaccinated communities in Australia. Go to www.australia.gov.au
