Ku-ring-gai sportsfields getting a makeover

AS Ku-ring-gai exits the COVID-19 lockdown, work is underway to refurbish several sportsfields in the local area.

At Lindfield Soldiers Memorial Field No 1 the second stage of upgrades began last month and are expected to be complete by the end of the year.

The work includes returfing and grading of the field, an upgrade to the cricket wicket and improvements to the soil quality to encourage grass growth during the sporting seasons.

Samuel King Oval at Bobbin Head Road Turramurra will undergo extensive renovations starting in December.

The oval will be regraded and returfed with the addition of a new synthetic cricket wicket.  The oval will also have new irrigation and drainage systems installed, allowing recycled water harvested from the drainage system to be used.

Work is planned to take place from December 2021 to April 2022, weather permitting. During this period the oval will be closed to the public.

Wellington Oval at East Lindfield is reopening soon, after work nears completion. The oval has received new turfing, irrigation and drainage systems and installation of a synthetic cricket wicket.

Mayor Dr Cedric Spencer said the works represented a ‘big investment’ in sports for the local community.

“Summer sports such as cricket are a big part of life in Ku-ring-gai and I’m pleased to see these projects getting funding in the Council’s capital works budget.”
