Hornsby Council ready for a fresh start in 2022

Ward A Councillors elected Mayor Philip Ruddock re elected comfortably for his second term.
Warren Waddell (Liberal) Nathan Tilbury (Liberal)  Tania Salitra (Greens)

Both Liberal candidates are returning to Councillor roles previously held. It was a closer race for Tania Salitra with Mick Marr (Labor). Ward A is the largest geographic ward which stretches from the Hawkesbury to the Hornsby city centre, and covers Hornsby Heights, Mount Colah, Mount Ku-ring-gai, Berowra and Brooklyn.
Ward B Councillors elected

Greens Councillor Emma Heyde was up against incumbent Mayor Philip Ruddock challenging him for the role of Mayor of Hornsby Shire Council. Emma Heyde’s support within Hornsby Shire is unmistakable, however she was not able to gain a majority and win the top job. With 42.7% and 36,951 votes that’s a great result. Mayor Ruddock achieved 57.3% of the votes and 49,065 votes. Many put this down to good management of the Council especially given the Council amalgamation and then Covid. This will be Mayor Ruddock’s second term as Mayor of Hornsby Shire Council. Hornsby has always been a conservative area. That makes it surprising to see that Labor and the Greens have consistently won 3-4 seats on the council between the two of them, with the exception of a wipe-out in 2012 when the Liberal Party first ran. This election sees Labor lose one seat (Mick Marr) to the Greens. This gives the Greens three seats on Council, one in each ward, and Labor will have only one with Janelle McIntosh in Ward B. Both Sallianne McClelland and Screeni Pillamarri are Liberal Councillors who won comfortably and will be joined by an additional Liberal Councillor in Ward C with Verity Greenwood. Overall, there has been a swing to the Greens and the Liberals with Labor losing one place on Council. Hornsby Shire Council meetings will recommence with the first meeting scheduled for Wednesday 9th February 2022.

Monika Ball (Greens) Sallianne McClelland (Liberal) Janelle McIntosh (Labor)

Hornsby Council will welcome two new Councillors for Ward B with both Monika Ball and Sallianne McClelland entering thier first term both Councillors won comfortably whilst the thrid position was tigher with incumbent Cr Janelle McIntosh (Labor) up against Martin Dargan (Liberal). In the end it came down to postal votes which saw Cr Janelle McIntosh returned to Council on 23rd December. Ward B includes the centre of the council, Westleigh, Normanhurst, Thornleigh and parts of Asquith and Hornsby
Ward C Councillors elected
