You’re “in a mood”!

Often at home or at our work we are sometimes told that “you’re in a mood!”, or it’s something we realise within ourselves.  The truth is, we all have our moods.  It is one of the finite aspects of being human. For a lot of us they come without notice and they run rampant through our bodies, and make it known to others around us.  And while we all experience these feelings, do we truly understand what a mood is?

We all have emotions, and these emotions will shift in nature, where our challenge in thought is to be able to navigate ourselves through these shifts. When these emotional shifts carry with us for a period of time, we can call it a mood.  Our moods also are like a wave, a wave we ride at the peak of our ecstasy or the misery of our melancholy.  So, as emotion is a core part of our existence, and so integral for our thinking and our interpretation of “feeling”, moods are a part of living and with it, will come its swings.  While these swings can be difficult for us to negotiate, when we come under stress & engaged in our manic highs and lows, our brains secrete less serotonin which is used to regulate our moods & balance our emotions.

So how then do we navigate ourselves through our moods?

By understanding the complexity, we all carry and accept our shifting moods are all a part of being human.  As by our awareness we can develop an intelligence to see through our moods as mere imposters that sometimes override our senses to command us into actions, we would later regret. As when we are aware that our moods are better susceptible towards change, we can then work with our moods to manage its fluctuations.  By developing the wisdom to witness our own emotional peaks & troughs as they occur, we can then cushion ourselves to fall softly in either direction.

Our moods are complex, as what lies on its surface will tumultuously turn and twist like the wind. For each of our moods we harvest there is a story in them all, where if we are brave, we shall conjure our courage to yonder deep as it is there we will find, our true, wisdom.
