Igniting Local Live Music

NORTHERN Beaches Council is partnering with the Live Music Office and the Australasian Performing Right Association and Australiasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society. Together, Council is hoping to uplift the local live music scene across the Beaches with a new Live and Local program.

Live and Local is a 12-month program which will see Council connect a network of local musicians, relevant industry professionals, and venues to develop opportunities for live events and local musicians. These include bands, DJS, and other music businesses.

As part of the program, Council are hosting a live music forum to discuss strategy and organise live events.

‘The Northern Beaches is home to so many talented local musicians and some fabulous live music venues,’ says Northern Beaches Mayor, Sue Heins. ‘We are working on a strategy to support the night-time economy in Manly and the wider Northern Beaches. I encourage all local musicians… to register their interest for the Live and Local program.’

The Live Music Office and APRA AMCOS offer local councils partnership and match-fund opportunities to bolster the local music industry, In 2023, APRA AMCOS, through their “Year in Review” report found that in New South Wales, there was a 32% loss in live music venues since the 2018 financial year, and 1,300 live music venues were lost across Australia.
