Clubs hit the ground running

With the 2021/22 season now finally kicked off in the men’s and women’s Premier Cricket competitions, it has been an interesting opening to the season for both the Northern Districts and Gordon District Cricket Clubs as the clubs looked to start their campaigns off on the right foot.

On the men’s side, it has been a great start for Northern Districts winning their first four games, with wins over Manly-Warringah, University of NSW and Hawkesbury in the Belvidere Cup, and a win over Campbelltown-Camden in the Kingsgrove T20 Cup.

Scott Rodgie has been on fire for the Rangers, with 11 wickets and handy runs in those games. Gordon however having a mixed start, with two wins over Blacktown Mounties and UTS North Sydney to start the Belvidere Cup, but then a loss to Parramatta, as well as losing to St George in round one of the Kingsgrove T20 competition just dampening those first two good results. Taj Brar has been a run machine, with 201 runs from those four matches, including 117 in their high scoring win against UTS North Sydney.

On the women’s side, last year’s premiers Northern Districts, were defeated by Manly Warringah, who were returning to
Women’s 1st Grade for the first time since the 1980s, and Gordon lost to last year’s Grand Finalists the Sydney Tigers in the first round. The big wet then denied us all the local derby between those two sides, with now all eyes on Round 10 to see who can take local bragging rights.
