NEW photo competition celebrating positive mental health is open for young northern Sydney residents.
Open until the 11th of August, the Need a Lift! competition is inviting young people aged 12-24 to take images and of people, places, or things that elicit a positive emotional response, submitting them with a description explaining why the image lifts their mood.
Organised by northern Sydney councils, the competition is in partnership with the Northern Sydney Local Health District School-Link Program, Brookvale and Chatswood headspace, Macquarie University Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Research Centre, and the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Community Drug Action Team.
‘This is a great opportunity for young people to showcase their photographic skills and at the same time shine a light on the importance of positive mental health,’ says Ku-ring-gai Mayor, Sam Ngai.
Winners will be announced in October, based on the number of likes the image receives online. Six Mastercard gift cards valued up to $350 are up for grabs, and all winners are given an invitation to a photography workshop.
Winning images will be placed in elevators of NSW Health and council facilities for the length of October, in recognition of Mental Health Month.
