North Sydney Council has released its draft Neutral Bay Town Centre Planning Study to the public. Council is requesting community feedback on the draft study before the 2nd of April.
The draft study comes after Council rescinded the Military Road Corridor Planning Study in 2022, due to community concerns over the proposed building heights of 12 storeys. With this new study, heights were reduced to a maximum of eight storeys.
In the draft Neutral Bay Town Centre Planning Study there is a proposal to improve public space and facilities, including new plazas on Grosvenor Lane and Rangers Road, a new community centre, widened footpaths, pedestrian links, and landscaping.
‘With this planning study, Council hopes to enhance the village atmosphere to the centre of Neutral Bay,’ says North Sydney Council Mayor Zoe Baker. ‘We know from speaking with the community that there is a real appetite for more inviting public space and community facilities in the town centre, and that’s what this plan hopes to achieve.’
The Neutral Bay Alive community consultation group helped Council with the development of the draft study. Council additionally received guidance from external consultants when developing the Neutral Bay Town Centre Planning Study.
‘The planning study also aims to make Neutral Bay more attractive to businesses so that we’re retaining jobs and services in the town centre,’ says Mayor Baker.
Submissions close for community feedback on Tuesday 2nd April at 5pm.
