Councils are calling for the community to take part once again in Clean Up Australia Day.
On Sunday the 3rd of March, Council is seeking volunteers in the community, schools, and businesses to clean up neighbourhoods.
‘Every year our wonderful community, school children, business and our Council staff don their gloves to collect the rubbish thoughtlessly dumped across our waterways, bushland, parks, open spaces and beaches,’ says Northern Beaches Mayor Sure Heins. ‘It is always a monumental and appreciated effort.’
Clean Up Australia Day was created in 1990 and has since seen 21 million volunteers join and aid the initiative. In 2023, close to 7,000 community members came together to clean 98 sites across the Northern Beaches. This year, Council are encouraging everyone to join Clean Up Australia Day.
Pip Kiernan, Chair of Clean Up Australia says: “Clean Up Australia Day is the largest volunteer clean up event across the nation each year and the most practical way to educate and demonstrate waste prevention.”
Ku-ring-gai Mayor Sam Ngai said he was excited to see the community come together for an important cause.
“We take pride in being the green heart of Sydney, and our residents are especially connected to preserving the environment.”
Business Clean Up Day was held on the 27th of February, while School Clean Up Day was held on the 1st of March.
