With the release of our February edition, we are excited to reveal our new branded news magazine stands built by The Dural Men’s Shed.
Now when you look for our printed monthly editions around the community, you will find they are sitting on polished, metal stands crafted by the blokes down in Dural.
The Post reached out to The Dural Men’s Shed to complete the task of creating 10 magazine stands because of their handsome handiwork and their commitment to community.
The Dural Men’s Shed has 140 members, who participate in a range of activities, from standard woodworking, wood turning, and metal work, much of the time being spent in support of people in need.
Many of the men come together to gain a sense of purpose and fun, and fight against health issues, loneliness, family loss, and depression. The Men’s Sheds are a place for the wellbeing of men, becoming a support structure of local mates that care about each other and their community.
The Dural men meet on Thursdays and Saturdays to work on their projects. On Wednesdays, the group host men from the WARRAH special school in Galston, and Fridays they partner with Galston High School to have the schoolboys work on projects including electronics, welding, woodwork, and car mechanics. The Men’s Shed prides itself on their intergenerational mentoring, which services school-aged boys in their journey from the classroom to a work setting.
The Men are encouraged to spend a third of their time on charity and community projects, a third maintaining the shed, and a third working on their own personal projects. The Shed says that every man is both a teacher and a student, with each member bringing a diverse variety of skills and knowledge to the group.
