A 73-year-old Mount Colah man is set to face Hornsby Local Court next month after being charged by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) for allegedly displaying prohibited Nazi symbols on social media.

The charges stem from a four-month investigation by the AFP’s National Security Investigations (NSI) team. Authorities state the investigation began in June following a report regarding an online user publishing banned symbols alongside antisemitic commentary.

In Short

  • Charges Laid: A 73-year-old Mount Colah resident faces four federal charges for allegedly displaying prohibited Nazi symbols on social media.
  • AFP Operation: Following a four-month investigation, federal officers executed a search warrant at an Upper North Shore property, seizing multiple electronic devices.
  • Court Date Set: The accused has been granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Hornsby Local Court on 11 November.

On Tuesday, investigators executed a search warrant at a residential property in the Upper North Shore suburb. During the operation, officers seized several electronic devices, including a mobile phone and USB storage, which will undergo further forensic examination.

The man has been charged with four counts of publicly displaying prohibited Nazi symbols, an offence under section 80.2H of the Commonwealth Criminal Code. If convicted, the offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment.

He was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before Hornsby Local Court on 11 November.
