For seventy-five years, Macquarie Community College has been committed to shaping stronger communities through learning and connection.
Today, Macquarie Community College is Western Sydney’s leading not-for-proft provider of community-based education and training.
At its inception, the facility was known as Eastwood Evening College. Since those first days, the College has expanded and has dedicated campuses in Blacktown, Carlingford, Chatswood, Epping, Mount Druitt, Ryde, and an additional Mount Druitt location set to launch this month. From 63 programs in the 1950s, the College has hundreds now, driven by the need for employment-ready graduates to fill critical skills gaps.
The College became a Registered Training Organisation after delivering the Adult Migrant English Program in the late 1990s, and this was solidified in 2015 by being recognised as a provider under the NSW Government’s Smart and Skilled program.
‘We’re thrilled to be celebrating 75 years of improving the lives of students through education and training. The College of today started in 1950 under the motto of “Dum Spiro Disco”, which is Latin for “While I breathe, I learn”, and the hardworking team has been dedicated to lifelong learning to this day,’ said Theresa Collignon, CEO of Macquarie Community College. ‘This milestone reflects the hard work of our team and our passion for delivering affordable and inclusive learning opportunities to meet the needs of our students, communities and local organisations.’
Under Ms Collignon’s leadership, the College launched Gateway Community High in 2021, expanding into High School education for Years 9 and 10. Gateway Community High meets a need for small, supportive learning environments for those young people at risk of disengaging with their traditional educational settings. In 2024, the facility added HSC programs.
Macquarie Community College celebrated its birthday on the 17th of June.
