Celebrating Christmas

Ku-ring-gai Mayor’s Christmas Appeal

Ku-ring-gai Mayor Christine Kay is urging the public to consider donating food this Christmas to people in need across Ku-ring-gai and Hornsby.

This Christmas Appeal is on behalf of Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury Sydney, who are taking donations until Friday the 6th of December.

Donations of packaged food are being sought, with special interest in any festive food such as Christmas cake, tinned hams, plum pudding, bon bons, and chocolates. The food will be made up into hampers and distributed to disadvantaged residents in the community.

‘We hear that vulnerable residents and families are struggling with cost-of-living increases and this is a great way of brightening up their Christmas,’ says Mayor Kay. ‘At this time of year, I encourage everyone in our community to reach out and help those who are doing it tough.’

Packages of donatable food can be left at the libraries at St Ives, Turramurra, Lindfield, and Gordon, or given to Ku-ring-gai Council’s customer service centre at Level 4 818 Pacific Highway, Gordon.

The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Ecumenical Choir are holding their annual performance of Handel’s “Messiah”.

On the 12th of December at Hornsby Cathedral, the volunteer choristers will put on a show, singing the iconic baroque songs of George Frideric Handel.

“Messiah” is a telling of the story of Jesus Christ. Proceeds made from the performance will be donated to the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter.
