The stolen war honour roll at Turramurra Memorial Park has been replaced.
In July, thieves removed a 2.1-metre-tall bronze honour roll plaque attached to the entrance gate. First installed in 1928 by former NSW Governor Sir Dudley de Chair, the act left the community feeling outraged.
‘The theft of the original roll was an appalling and disgraceful act,’ says Ku-ring-gai Mayor Christine Kay. ‘Unfortunately, the original honour roll and the criminals who took it have not been found.’
As the right honour roll was not stolen, manufacturing a replica of the left involved a labour-intensive fabrication process to give the new roll an aged appearance. Ku-ring-gai Council enlisted sign fabricator Cunneen Signs to reinstall the replica.
