Respect for Women:

More Than Words Action is What’s Needed

When I stood on a platform of respect for women in this election, I meant it.

I often remind my friends and family to surround themselves with loving and supportive people—those who lift you up, celebrate your successes, stand by you in the tough times, and genuinely want the best for you.

That’s the kind of environment I was raised in. As the daughter of a single mum, a mother myself, and part of a long line of strong women, I know firsthand the power of support and how crucial it is when times are trying.

It’s why I’m always honoured to attend events that champion women’s causes.

Just recently, I had the privilege of joining a charity lunch at Magill College Sydney to raise funds for Kingsway Community Care—an organisation providing holistic support for women, men, and children facing homelessness due to domestic violence, family breakdown, or unemployment. Sadly, these issues are just as real in the communities of Sydney’s North Shore as they are across the city.

What struck me most that day was the courage of one young woman who stood up and shared her story of how she found her way out of fear and danger, and how far she’s now come.

Yet, a theme that kept surfacing in every conversation was the chronic lack of funding for homelessness services. Many of you will already know that women over 55 are now the fastest-growing group at risk of homelessness in Australia.

In the coming editions, I’ll be sharing updates from across Sydney—stories, data, and initiatives in this space, because we need action. Together, we can make a difference through education, awareness, and by raising the funds that are so desperately needed.

If you know of an organisation doing important work to support women, please reach out as I’d love to hear from you.
