April Fools’ Day – Minns’ Mad Rezonings

On 1 April Fools’ Day the NSW Government is expected to introduce its first round of rezonings.  This will be the ‘death of Sydney’ as we know it.  Intense letter writing pressure is needed.

There are only six NSW Parliamentary sitting days left before this one-size-fits-all planning agenda is introduced.  NSW Labor is in minority government.  Only 12 MPs need to cross the floor.

Letters also need to be sent to the NSW Governor, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, asking her to stop Minns’ undemocratic rezonings.

‘Carpet bombing’ is planned for every suburb across Greater Sydney and the regions. Rezonings will depend not on a locality’s unique character but on the distance from a railway station or shopping centre. Dual occupancies will be allowed on tiny residential blocks across NSW. Catastrophe for family homes, gardens, canopy trees, birdlife, heritage, threatened wildlife habitat and fuelling more dangerous heat for Sydney.

Nor will the high-rise apartments necessarily be affordable, be of quality design, be well constructed or bring new infrastructure.

Community rage is growing as people understand how the places they love will be bulldozed and erased forever. Deeply disturbing too are the allegations of corruption within NSW Planning. People want quality evidence-based town planning that has integrity, transparency, involves genuine community consultation and is not decided by developers.

If the Crossbench withdrew their support – Minns’ plans would collapse.

We just need to keep writing those letters!
