The NSW Government has announced 1500 new homes at the former Chatswood Metro Dive Site, including 180 build-to-rent apartments for essential workers.
State-owned developer Landcom is being supported by the NSW government’s $450 million investment into the project. Essential workers are nurses, paramedics, teachers, police officers, and firefighters. With unaffordable housing, essential workers often cannot live in the same area they are based to work, and as such this strains the service system with risk of understaffing.
With the announcement, Willoughby City Council Mayor Tanya Taylor said, ‘We need to make sure new housing is supported by vital community infrastructure like schools and open space.’
‘This is a rare opportunity to plan for the future on a key gateway site into Willoughby and the Chatswood CBD, and Council looks forward to working with the State Government to help deliver the best outcome for the community,’ she said.
