New planning changes to Cherrybrook will allow 28 storey apartment buildings and over 9,000 new homes.
In early November, the NSW government released a revision to the Cherrybrook Precinct Rezoning Proposal for public exhibition. Before this revision, the previous plan allowed for around 3,200 new apartments and a height limit of 5 storeys.
The new proposal outlines a new town centre near the Cherrybrook Metro Station, with 9,350 new homes, 4.5 hectares in five local parks, 5-10% affordable rental housing, and walking and cycling connections. Of these homes, 4,256 would be located within Hornsby Shire.
The state government has opened public submissions. Residents, businesses and stakeholders are invited to view the full exhibition materials and provide feedback until 5pm on 5 December 2025.
Hornsby Shire Council has officially requested extending the submission period, writing to the Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, Paul Scully MP.
‘This time of year is particularly busy for many in the community. Extending the public consultation period and undertaking additional community information sessions would allow the community appropriate time and opportunities to understand the details of the draft rezoning proposal and submit informed submissions,’ wrote Council to the Minister.
