Speaker of the House of Representatives, Milton Dick MP and Member for Bradfield, Nicolette Boele MP recently launched the “My First Speech” Competition for local Bradfield electorate schools.
Targeted at students in years 10, 11, and 12, the competition challenges high schoolers to write a 90-second speech as if they were newly elected members of parliament, focusing on any topic they choose.
Winners will be picked from each year group, who will with their parents or guardian be flown to Canberra to deliver their speech lives, and participate in a program to improve their understand of the legislative process.
‘This is an exciting opportunity for our Bradfield students to shine a national spotlight on the issues that matter most to them,’ says Nicolette Boele MP. ‘The students participating in this competition will be our local leaders of tomorrow, and I am excited to give them a head start on their futures with this program.’
‘This competition will provide high school students with the chance to learn more about the way our nation’s democracy works, and how actively engaging with the parliamentary process can draw attention to the issues that are most important to them,’ Speaker of the House of Representatives, Milton Dick MP.
The submission deadline for the “My First Speech” competition is Monday 15th September 2025.
