Ku-ring-gai Youth Development Service (KYDS) is celebrating its 20th year.

To mark this milestone, KYDS is encouraging the community to donate $20 and complete 20 acts of kindness under their #20for20KYDS hashtag.

KYDS was established in 2005 by Lindfield Rotary Club with support from Ku-ring-gai Council. The goal is to offer comprehensive, long-term counselling solutions for free to young people across Ku-ring-gai. With a holistic approach, the service is personalised to support a young person experiencing challenges with anxiety, depression, bullying, self-esteem problems, and suicidal ideation.

Since opening its doors, KYDS has received 4,000 referrals, and delivered 54,000 free counselling sessions.

‘Last year, we delivered more than 10,500 free counselling sessions, a stark contrast to our modest beginnings,’ says Carol Simpson, KYDS CEO. ‘We’re incredibly grateful to each and every person who has played a role in the KYDS journey since 2005, and thankful that we have been able to make a difference to so many young people and their families.’

Throughout 2025, KYDS invites the community, donors, and partners to join in the celebration, raise awareness, and support the next generation’s journey towards better mental health. Every $1 donated to KYDS creates over $6 in positive impact for the community.

‘Our 20th anniversary is not just a time to celebrate, but to renew our promise to young people: we will continue to be there for you, providing safe, supportive and free mental health services,’ says Ms Simpson.
