Hornsby Shire Council’s Fagan Park Children’s Forest has been named the winner of the 2025 Parks and Leisure Australia National Award of Excellence for Playspace under $500,000.
Developed in partnership with landscape architect Fiona Robbé, the project was shaped through detailed consultation with local schools.
It is the first park in New South Wales designed specifically to cultivate children’s connection to the natural world. Key features of Fagan Park Children’s Forest include interactive educational discovery pods, timber animal sculptures for imaginative play, an outdoor learning space and Yarning Circle, and a pond with stepping stone.
The playspace was jointly funded by the NSW Government and Hornsby Shire Council. A new tree house is planned for the site, partly funded through a NSW Government Crown Reserve Improvement Fund Grant. Construction is expected to begin Spring 2026.
