Affecting 5 million people nationwide, migraines are a debilitating neurological condition characterised by intense, throbbing pain, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. Some sufferers also experience visual auras that warn of an upcoming attack. For those affected, migraines drastically disrupt work, school, and social lives.
I feel very comfortable writing about this topic because I’ve been a migraine sufferer since I was thirteen. Living with migraines is scary and unpredictable, especially when they aren’t under control. Perhaps the hardest part is that it’s an invisible illness – no one can see your pain or struggle. More than a few times, I’ve had to slip away quietly from events to retreat to a dark room.
As I’ve gotten older, and with the help of medication, my migraines are finally under control – a reprieve I never take for granted. It took years of learning, but a major change in my diet and lifestyle allows me to live a virtually migraine-free existence right now. Because I know firsthand how challenging this journey is, I’m thrilled to share the news about a groundbreaking new study coming very soon.
