Petstock Mount Colah are celebrating 10 years of their National Pet Adoption Month (NPAM).

In March, Petstock Mount Colah are encouraging the community to adopt or foster a pet in need. NPAM is an initiative of the Petstock Foundation, formerly known as the Perspiration Foundation, and helped find homes for over 40,000 rescue pets in the 10 years the initiative has been running.

Currently across Australia, there are over 8,000 pets at shelters, rescue groups, pounds and vets who are awaiting adoption. Over March, Petstock are hoping members of the community will open their hearts to a pet in need of a loving home.

‘In my experience, an adopted animal can adjust and learn how to fit into your life, with a little training and patience,’ says Dr Kate Mornement, Animal Behaviourist and Petstock Foundation Ambassador.

Petstock indicate that 36% of Australian adults report feeling loneliness, while 97% of people agree having a pet positively impacts life and 95% believe pets improve mental health. Petstock argue that these findings show companion animals improve the mental and physical health of people.

‘There are so many wonderful benefits of pet ownership, including reducing feelings of loneliness, opening up opportunities for social interaction, and increased overall happiness,’ says Jessica Curtis, Petstock Foundation Strategic Manager. ‘We’re asking Australians to adopt or foster a rescue animal or donate to the Petstock Foundation to support pet charities.’

On the 16th and 17th of March, selected Petstock stores will have rescue pets available for adoption or fostering.
