Pre-Poll Booth Clash in Cherrybrook Has Police Called

Police have been called to a pre-poll booth in Cherrybrook.

Volunteers for all candidates have been stationed at pre-poll booths around the Berowra federal electorate, speaking with voters and handing out flyers. On April 26, an alleged altercation between a volunteer for independent candidate Tina Brown and a volunteer for liberal incumbent Julian Leeser took place.

According to reports, Leeser’s volunteer was seen bullying and intimidating Brown’s volunteer, all while Julian Leeser stood by.

‘Julian Leeser was present during this exchange, and despite my volunteer asking for his assistance, he turned his back and walked away,’ said Ms Brown in an online short video. ‘That is not the sort of representation that our community needs or deserves.’

After the Brown campaign reported the incident to the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), the AEC deemed the incident worthy of police notification. The Hills Police Area Command confirm that the AEC contacted police about the incident.

Ms Brown is calling on Liberal Julian Leeser to stand down those responsible and condemn the behaviour.

‘My volunteers will not be bullied into silence. They are standing up for a better future for Berowra, and I will always stand with them,’ said Ms Brown in a press release.

‘Berowra deserves leadership built on respect, integrity, and courage—not intimidation and silence. Our community expects—and demands—better.’

The Post reached out to Julian Leeser though we did not receive a by the publication deadline.
