Key Takeaways

  • Historic Milestone: St Edmund’s College Wahroonga is celebrating its 75th anniversary, having grown from a small school for nine boys in 1951 to supporting 110 co-educational students today.
  • Community Celebration: The diamond jubilee was commemorated on Edmund Rice Day with a celebratory Mass, campus tours, and vibrant performances by current and former students.
  • Enduring Mission: The Upper North Shore college remains dedicated to providing liberating special education, empowering young people to build independence and successfully navigate post-school pathways.

It has been 75 remarkable years since St Edmund’s College Wahroonga was founded. What began in 1951 as a small school for nine boys with vision impairment has grown into a vibrant, co-educational college supporting 110 young people with special needs across Years 5-12.

Throughout this journey, the mission of St Edmund’s has remained steadfast: to provide an education that honours dignity, fosters independence, and equips young people for life beyond school.

The St Edmund’s community came together on Edmund Rice Day to celebrate a school that has shaped the lives of so many. Festivities began with a joyful Mass celebrated by Fr David Ranson and Fr Gaspar Mushi, followed by the ceremonial cutting of the anniversary cake, a sausage sizzle lunch, college tours, and market stalls showcasing merchandise designed by Eddie’s students. The celebrations concluded with outstanding performances by both current and former students.

Distinguished guests included representatives from the College Advisory Council, Edmund Rice Education Australia, EREA Flexible Schools Ltd, Catholic Schools NSW, the Diocese of Broken Bay, the Christian Brothers, and long-standing supporters of the College. Families, alumni, staff, and friends gathered for a day marked by reflection, celebration, and community spirit.

This milestone represents far more than 75 years of growth and achievement. It honours the memories, dedication, and contributions of the many individuals who have shaped the St Edmund’s story. As the College celebrates its Diamond Jubilee, it reflects proudly on its rich history, pays tribute to the enduring legacy of the Christian Brothers and Edmund Rice, and looks ahead to a bright and hope-filled future.

Celebrating 75 years is a significant achievement, and St Edmund’s College proudly honours its long-standing legacy of excellence in special education, supporting and empowering generations of young people and their families.
