Dear Editor, NOT FOR PUBLICATION.
I refer to the article entitled ‘’Opinion Piece’’ appearing on page eight of the above edition of your journal.
There is no editorial disclaimer of the content and intent of the article. It follows that, crowning your long time promotion of the Teal candidate for Berowra, your journal has unmistakably attached its editorial policy to that of the Labor Party.
By resort to loose language, the author of the article adopts the very same falsehoods and fabrications as darkened and debased the ALP campaign at the May election.
Consider : ‘’ Labor is now a socially progressive and fiscally responsible party’’ and ‘’the Liberal’s fervent denial of climate change’’. The anti Leeser theme adds weight to the bias and inferentially gives rise to a suggestion of anti semitism.
Further, the author, plainly writing on your behalf and that of your publisher, proclaims ‘’an abhorrence to career politicians’’. As to quite how this phrase is to be defined is not clear but, giving the words their ordinary meaning, is not the Prime Minister a career politician ? And every member of parliament?
Those who earnestly and conscientiously apply themselves to their calling are to be supported.
I propose that the word ‘’Labor’ be inserted in the title to your journal so that reads ‘’The Labor Post’’.
Yours faithfully,
Ross B
Editor’s Note:
The article referred to by the letter writer is titled “Bradfield and Berowra: Labor’s New Heartland” and is clearly identified as an “Opinion Piece” alongside the Author’s Name.
The Publisher of The Post, Ms Tina Brown, stood as an independent candidate for Berowra in the recent Federal Election Campaign.
Letter Writers are reminded of The Posts policy with respect to letters received.
