Local ecumenical choir returns this Christmas to perform the timeless oratorio Messiah by Handel.
Since 2009, the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Ecumenical Choir have sung George Fridrick Handel’s 1741 musical composition Messiah, a retelling of the story of Jesus Christ. The Choir began this tradition to celebrate the joining of parish communities Queen of Peace Normanhurst and Our Lady of the Rosary Waitara into one Hornsby Cathedral.
This year, on the 11th of December, the performance of Messiah will be held at Holy Name Catholic Church Wahroonga. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter and Beecroft House.
Messiah is split into 3 parts—the first about the Old Testament prophecies of Christ, the second about the passion, crucifixion, and resurrection, and the third as a reflection based on the text of First Corinthians.
The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Ecumenical Choir are calling for choristers who would like to join.
‘We pride ourselves on offering an inclusive choir experience – no audition is required. Simply bring your voice, your passion, and your commitment to our rehearsals,’ say the Choir.
Rehearsals will be at St Swithun’s Anglican Church Pymble 7:30pm Wednesday 5, 12, 19, 26 November and 3 December. Final rehearsal will be held at Holy Name Catholic Church Wahroonga, Wednesday 10 December.
