Sydney Adventist Hospital Wins Historic Global Award for Stroke Care Excellence

Sydney Adventist Hospital has become the first private hospital in Australia to receive a prestigious Angels Award from the World Stroke Organisation.

The award recognises hospitals that deliver high-quality treatment for stroke patients, from diagnosis in a timely manner to intervention. This milestone for the San means the hospital have achieved a gold status for excellence in stroke care.

Stroke simulation exercise at the San

To mark the achievement, clinical teams at the San conducted a live stroke simulation to demonstrate their emergency response.

The exercise traced the full patient journey from arrival at the Emergency Department to diagnostic imaging and treatment decision-making.

‘Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability in Australia, and with numbers rising as our population ages, delivering fast, effective care has never been more important,’ said CEO of Adventist HealthCare, Brett Goods.

‘This recognition reflects consistently high standards in how quickly, safely and effectively we treat patients experiencing stroke, where every minute matters. I’m incredibly proud of our stroke team and their ongoing commitment to continuously improving stroke care for our community.’

Sydney Adventist Hospital is one of 40 NSW facilities participating in the RISE (Realising Improvement in Stroke Excellence) program, RISE aims to set global benchmarks in stroke care and improve patient outcomes.

The hospital is also accredited as a Primary Stroke Centre by the Australian Stroke Coalition.

Stroke services at the San are led by Dr Kong Chung and Stroke Clinical Nurse Consultant Krista Dormitorio.
