Fire to revive Marian St Theatre continues to burn brightly.

Performers came together at Killara Uniting Church for a pro-Arts protest “We Heart the Arts” on the 16th of February.

The Gordon-based Hummingbird Choir performed a percussive piece. The Killara Scottish Country Dance Group entertained the crowd with audience participation. A string sextet from the Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra showcased the pieces they rehearsed during the coronavirus. The Challis Singers performed items from the musical “Rent”. Kathak Indian dance duo entertained with a blend of traditional and contemporary music.

Despite the joyous atmosphere, the crowd and Marian St Theatre came out steadfast in their advocacy to reopen the theatre. The stage at the Killara Uniting Church was small, only holding a maximum of 15 performers, and could not accommodate the need for cultural arts.

‘Sport gets our attention, but anything cultural requires us to get in a private vehicle and drive somewhere else. Or hire a church hall,’ said Tony Bates, Chair of Marian St Action.

In attendance was Gisele Kapterian, Liberal candidate for Bradfield; Nicolette Boele, Independent candidate for Bradfield; Ku-ring-gai Council Mayor, Christine Kay; Member for Davidson, Matt Cross; Ku-ring-gai councillors Indu Balachandran and Barabara Ward; and former Mayor of Ku-ring-gai Cheryl Szatow.
