You can bet that Sydney looks its best when it is doused in colour, art and culture. Vivid does just that.
From the 24th of May to the 15th of June, as the sun sets and darkness descends, expect your city to become a canvas for artists from around the world to paint their visions in light. Vivid 2024 pumped up to be the biggest and the best Vivid experience.
Vivid naturally attracts the masses, and you can bet that Sydney will be under the theoretical ‘pump’ during Vivid.
Vivid Sydney offers a diverse array of experiences, with many events free to the public.
One of the highlights of this year’s Vivid Sydney is the “Love is in the Air” drone show, set to grace the skies above Circular Quay. Directed by Gill Minervini and accompanied by the enchanting music of Peewee Ferris, this aerial spectacle will create otherworldly scenes against the backdrop of the city skyline. Scheduled for June 8, 9, and 15, weather permitting, it’s an event not to be missed.
Tumbalong Park will be a hub of activity during Vivid Sydney, hosting the “Tumbalong Nights” event. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in a multi-sensory experience featuring Australian and international musical talent. From DJs to live bands, the lineup promises to deliver unforgettable performances throughout the festival period.
As night falls, Sydney will come alive with mesmerising light displays scattered across Circular Quay, the Rocks, and the Botanical Gardens. These illuminations, crafted by both local and international artists, showcase the latest innovations in light artistry and promise to inspire wonder in all who behold them.
One standout installation is “Window Dressing” at the UTS ‘paper bag’ building in Ultimo. Artist Liesel Badorrek will transform the building’s facade with illuminated windows, offering a glimpse into alternate lives and exploring the theme of ‘Humanity’ that defines this year’s Vivid.
In addition to these featured attractions, Vivid Sydney 2024 will include a host of other captivating installations and performances. From Reg Mombassa’s surreal visuals at Customs House, one of the hotspot locations on the Vivid calendar, to Guan Wei’s transformative projections at the popular Museum of Contemporary Art, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Extra services will run throughout the festival for convenient travel. Arrive early before Lights On at 6 pm to avoid congestion caused by closed roads and limited parking. For a seamless visit, we suggest you leave your car at home, as there will be nightly road closures and parking restrictions.
