Lights On at HART: Night Driving Practice for Learners

The aim of the event is to provide a safe and controlled environment for Learner Drivers to practice driving after dark and gain night-driving confidence on the HART Road Circuit, without the added pressures and stress of regular road traffic. The Learner Driver will also be able to use this event in logging driving hours in their logbooks.
Police attached to the Northern Sydney Highway Patrol Sector. The aim of Police attendance is to provide a presentation to the Novice Drivers and their respective supervisors regarding specific conditions attached to Learner and Provisional Licence holders, providing background on common mistakes and offences made by novice drivers, various road rules along with drink/drug driving information etc. Police also set up a simulated Stationary Roadside Testing site to allow Learner Drivers and their supervisors to gain exposure too and experience real world interactions with Police in a non-confrontational and relaxed environment. This also provides the opportunity for Novice Drivers and their supervisors to ask questions of, and/or seek clarification around road rules etc. It further provides the opportunity for Police, with the assistance of HART to engage with novice/vulnerable road users to address and potentially prevent future road trauma and risky driver behaviour by young drivers.
Fire Rescue NSW have also become part of the engagement event and provide a short presentation to the novice drivers, along with staff from HART providing a presentation relating to crash statistics, reasons behind those and basic information relating to driver seating positions, currently vehicle technologies etc.
This event will provide an opportunity for novice drivers specifically within the Northern Beaches and Kuring Gai Council catchment areas, although learners from other areas will also be more than welcome.
