As we come to the end of 2025, it’s pleasing to see that uncertainty over future housing in Ku-ring-gai has been resolved.
Our alternative plan for new housing in Gordon, Killara, Lindfield and Roseville has been officially approved by the NSW Government. The plan will replace the government’s former transport-oriented development (TOD) policy introduced in May 2024.
Our plan brings certainty to those property owners in the Gordon, Killara, Lindfield and Roseville areas who were previously affected by the TOD policy. While it won’t please everyone, it will protect important built heritage and the tree canopy while at the same time meeting the government’s targets for new housing in Ku-ring-gai.
At our November meeting, Council unanimously resolved to accept the Government’s offer to discontinue proceedings in the Land and Environment Court.
Our alternative plan has been recognised and awarded for its innovation, with Council recently winning the 2025 PIA NSW Award for Planning Excellence.
It’s important recognition that our housing plan will better protect heritage and the environment while meeting the state’s housing targets.
Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this journey, for attending forums and drop-in sessions and sharing your feedback on a housing solution that will work best for our community.
Finally, as we approach Christmas, I invite you to help support those in our community who may be feeling isolated or experiencing financial hardship. You can help by donating dry or packaged food, tinned goods, toys or cash to the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.
All donations go into hampers that Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury will distribute locally.
You can drop-off items at Council’s Customer Service Centre (818 Pacific Highway, Gordon) or Ku-ring-gai Library branches. Cash donations are also welcome and go directly toward the hampers. The appeal closes at 5 pm, Friday 12 December.
On behalf of Council I wish you and your family a very merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Have an enjoyable summer and don’t forget to check our what’s on calendar at krg.nsw.gov.au to see what fun events and programs are happening near you.
Ku-ring-gai Mayor Christine Kay
