This month, Hornsby Connect is celebrating nine years of service to the local community.
Founded in 2016, the not-for-profit organisation provides vital support to people in need, primarily through its food bank service. Beyond supplying groceries, Hornsby Connect also offers a welcoming environment where community members can connect, share experiences, and access additional support.
Over the years, the organisation has partnered with both local and national groups, including Mission Australia, Hornsby Rotary Club, and Hornsby Lions Club. These partnerships have helped expand its reach and strengthen its impact.
In a timely boost, Hornsby Connect has recently secured a $40,000 grant from the Community Building Partnership (CBP) program. CBP is a NSW Government initiative that funds local infrastructure projects aimed at improving inclusion and participation.
President Doug Reid said the funds will be used to purchase a new refrigeration truck, replacing their current vehicle, which has been in service for 15 years. He noted that the grant could not have come at a better time, coinciding with the organisation’s milestone anniversary.
“So what we’re planning to do when we get a new truck, which is hopefully November or December, is to have a get-together with all our friends and colleagues,” Mr Reid said. “We’ll bless the truck, celebrate, thank our friends and supporters, and say goodbye to the old truck.”
For Hornsby Connect, the occasion marks not just the celebration of nine years of service, but also a new chapter in its ongoing mission to support those in need.
