As summer settles across Bradfield, our green spaces are on full display—a daily reminder of the natural beauty we’re lucky to be surrounded by. It’s also a reminder of why I’m working to strengthen the laws that protect it for future generations.
Last month, the federal government introduced the first comprehensive update to our federal nature laws in 25 years. It’s our once-in-a-generation chance to restore and protect the natural beauty that defines our community and our country. I’ll be continuing that conversation locally at our Zenith Theatre Town Hall in Chatswood on 1 December, bringing experts together to explore how the nature law reforms should better protect the places we love while supporting sensible development.
Back home, it was very moving to join hundreds of locals for the Mary’s House Services Walk, standing together against domestic violence. Domestic violence knows no postcode, and I’ve written to the Prime Minister asking when the 21 recommendations from last year’s rapid review will be implemented.
It’s been inspiring to see local leadership in action. Last month in Parliament, I hosted Wahroonga’s Satara Uthayakumaran, Australia’s Youth Representative to the UN. Satara briefed the crossbench, the Youth Minister, and the Shadow Youth Minister, after leading our country’s largest face-to-face consultation with young people. Satara has already presented her findings to the UN General Assembly in New York. It’s a massive achievement for a young local, and Bradfield is very lucky to count her as one of our own!
I always enjoy hearing your views at my pop-up offices—so if you’re passing by between 7.45 and 8.45am, come and say hello! I’ll be at Gordon Station on Friday 5 December, Roseville Station on Friday 12 December, and Killara Station on Friday 19 December.
Wishing everyone in Bradfield a safe, joyful and restful holiday season.
