NORTHERN Beaches Council is organising information sessions for keen residents regarding the NSW government’s proposed housing height and density increases on the Northern Beaches.
The Council has urged the government to abandon the proposals, citing concerns about their potential long-term environmental and social impacts on the local area.
Mayor Sue Heins invites local residents to attend these sessions to gain insight into how the proposals could affect them personally.
“While we recognise the need to address Sydney’s housing crisis, we oppose the blanket approach to housing density,” Mayor Heins stated. “This could result in inappropriate developments in unsuitable locations and undermine Council’s ability to plan effectively for growth.”
She highlighted potential consequences such as increased strain on infrastructure, including roads and public transport, and potential loss of green spaces and heritage protections.
Residents are encouraged to register for these sessions to understand the proposals’ implications and explore potential courses of action.
Council Planning staff will conduct sessions in each of the five Council wards. The events are free, but registration is mandatory. Details for the sessions are available on the Council website, they are Monday 3 June, 6 – 7 pm at Manly Seniors Main Hall, Cromer and; Thursday 6 June at Newport community Centre Main Hall.
