Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury Sydney is advocating for greater recognition of the need for a holistic, community-based approach to crisis support and suicide prevention.
Around Australia, at any hour of day or night, Lifeline’s phone and digital crisis lines respond to the calls of people in need. But the charity says tailored, local programs can meet the complex needs of communities across the nation.
While Lifeline’s phone and digital crisis lines operate around the clock across Australia, the regional organisation says tailored, local programs are essential to meeting the complex needs of communities.
‘Our footprint in the Harbour to Hawkesbury region means we are uniquely placed to support people in a range of ways,’ said Chief Executive Officer for Lifeline H2HS, Elizabeth Lovell. ‘Each Lifeline staff member or volunteer takes their knowledge and expertise into their families and communities, helping to raise awareness, reduce stigma and remove barriers for people seeking support.’
Lifeline H2HS, in addition to Lifeline’s national 24/7 phone and digital services, provides local face-to-face services for Financial Counselling, Personal
Counselling, Support and Treatment Groups, and support by way of their program Lifeline Connect in the
Chatswood Library, Stanton Library in North Sydney, and Hornsby library.
The organisation runs education and awareness initiatives aimed at equipping community members with the skills to recognise and respond to signs of distress, strengthening local capacity for suicide prevention.
Anyone feeling overwhelmed, or concerned about someone else, is encouraged to seek support. Lifeline’s services are available 24/7 by calling 13 11 14, texting 0477 131 114, or through online chat.
