The secret weapon for property buyers: what is a buyer’s agent?

Principal Tim Mitchell explains how professional representation unlocks off-market listings and removes emotion from your biggest financial decision

The secret weapon for property buyers: what is a buyer’s agent?

Buyers Agent, your secret weapon in the property market

Most people wouldn’t step into a courtroom without a lawyer, yet thousands of Australians make the biggest financial decision of their lives—buying a property—without professional representation.

When you look at a property listing, the selling agent represents the vendor. Their legal and ethical obligation is to get the highest price and the best terms for the seller. So, who is representing you?

This is where a Buyer’s Agent comes in.

Unlike a selling agent, a Buyer’s Agent works exclusively for the purchaser. We level the playing field. Our role is to search, evaluate, and negotiate on your behalf to ensure you don’t overpay or buy a property with hidden issues.

We do the heavy lifting by:

  • Saving you time: We filter through the noise, inspecting properties so you only see the ones that match your brief.
  • Unlocking access: We often have access to “off-market” listings that never hit the public portals.
  • Removing emotion: We negotiate based on data and market value, not sentiment, keeping a cool head when the pressure is on.

Whether you are a first-time buyer or an experienced investor, having an expert in your corner can be the difference between a stressful purchase and a successful investment.

Tim Mitchell is the Principal Buyer’s Agent at Bow Tie Buyers Agency. If you are looking to buy a property and want a data-led approach to your next property, contact
