NOMINATIONS are open for the 2025 Local Westfield Heroes program.

Each year, Westfield awards $20,000 to one Local Hero at each Westfield location for the organisation or group they represent. The Heroes are individuals who are dedicated to contributing positively to their communities and are making a difference.

Alongside the Local Hero, two finalists from each centre will receive a $5,000 grant for their organisation or group.

In total, 126 grants are up for grabs in Australia and New Zealand, across 42 Westfield locations. Over $1.2 million will be awarded.

‘We’re excited to celebrate these inspiring individuals within our communities and welcome them as Westfield Local Hero alumni,’ said Scentre Group National Community Manager, Pam Wilson. ‘The Westfield Local Heroes program is a testament to the remarkable individuals who dedicate themselves to making a difference.’

Among the Local Hero alumni is 2024 Westfield Hero, Sian Gordon.

Sian is a team leader at the not-for-profit organisation, The Burdekin Association.

Burdekin works with young people to tackle and prevent youth homelessness, provide housing, and support young people’s well-being.

‘My CEO put me forward for it, I really didn’t do much,’ said Sian, speaking about her initial nomination. ‘I won and it was a shock to be honest… it was unexpected, but I was so pleased, it was such a huge boost for us.’

Winning allowed Burdekin to provide personalised care for individuals in need — to brighten their spirits and lessen their load.

‘We are doing driving lessons, money is going towards formals,’ explained Sian. ‘We’ve got one young lady going into hospital soon with severe endometriosis… so we can pay her rent for a month. Situations like that, to have that $20,000, is just amazing.’

Nominations close for the 2025 Westfield Local Heroes program on 13 March 2025. Community voting will commence at the end of August 2025, and grant recipients will be announced in October 2025.
