The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign running annually from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to December 10, Human Rights Day.
The movement raises awareness about violence against women and girls.
During this period, governments, organisations, and communities are encouraged to promote prevention strategies, support survivors, and advocate for stronger laws and policies. Activities include educational workshops, marches, and social media campaigns, all aimed at fostering a culture of respect and equality.
The 16 Days serve as a reminder that ending gender-based violence requires ongoing commitment and collective action from everyone.
In 2025, the campaign’s theme is “Ending Digital Abuse: Protecting Women and Girls Online”. This focus highlights the concern of online violence, including cyberstalking, harassment, and image-based abuse. Organisations worldwide are advocating for stronger laws, better digital literacy, and safer online platforms.
