Can you believe it’s been five years already? The idea for a hyper-local publication first came to me in June of 2020 at my home in Mount Colah.
Back then, there was nothing landing in my letterbox to tell me what was happening around us. The world felt heavy, lockdowns had left many isolated, supermarket shelves were bare, the news was relentlessly grim, and we were all anxiously waiting for a vaccine.
I really wanted to bring something to the community which captured the heart beat of our community, raised the profile of not-for-profits and charities, and connected us in the face of adversity.
At a time when most businesses were suffering financially, when people were unsure about job security and how long this bubble would last, I was busy researching and working to secure engagement for what was originally called The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Post and is now known simply as The Post.
While businesses struggled, jobs felt uncertain, and nobody knew how long this strange new reality would last, I poured my energy into research, phone calls, and conversations. That’s how The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Post was born, a publication created for locals, by locals.
You will notice on the first column I published, that I dedicated the first edition to my favourite aunty who was diagnosed late with Motor Neurone Disease and sadly passed soon after, the publication gave me a great sense of purpose during Covid for many reasons.
