September is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on this devastating disease.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, a condition that gradually erodes memory, thinking, and behaviour. Other types include vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, and frontotemporal dementia. Dementia can also affect younger individuals.

While there’s no cure, understanding the challenges faced by those living with Alzheimer’s is crucial. Mobility is often overlooked but significantly impacts quality of life. As the disease progresses, simple tasks like walking become difficult, affecting independence. Mobility aids, such as walkers, canes, and wheelchairs, can restore confidence.

Occupational therapists are essential in helping people with Alzheimer’s maintain independence. They assess needs, recommend suitable aids, and provide strategies for safe use. Collaborating with caregivers and assistive technology specialists, they improve lives.

Karis Life offers assistive technology solutions to support individuals with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. Our expert team helps find the right mobility aids to enhance independence and safety. Our previous article focused on alarms and monitors for dementia management.

Early intervention and appropriate support are vital for maintaining quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.
